30 for 30-Day 11

I was so looking forward to taking my pictures today simply because Damien was working from home and that meant that I wouldn't have to worry about what to do with Max as I ran outside to try and snap a few pictures.  I was planning on heading out to the nearby school (once everyone was gone) to get some nice shots in front of the brick building, kind of like I did here and here.  But Mother Nature had other plans for me.  Today was one of the windiest days of the season.  Seriously.   I don't think my tripod would withstand the gusts so alas, here I am, back on my front porch.  I used to take the time to move the mat from my front door, like here and here, but now I can't be bothered.  Everyone knows that this is my front porch, and that's generally where you find a doormat.  And this one is mine.

This was always my favorite school day of the year.  Even more than the last day of school (ok, maybe not but a really close second.  Maybe even a tie).  I love the fact that it is a half-day for teachers too.  It is the only one we get.  As a student, half-days were the best.  Early release usually meant a trip downtown to the local eatery and plenty of hours hanging out with friends.  Nowadays, a half-day means professional development or curriculum days, and if we are lucky, a trip to the local eatery that is also filled with kids.  Not so much fun.  But the day before Thanksgiving is different.  The school day ends early and it is a guaranteed 4 days off afterwards.  People are usually headed home to prepare for the holiday.  Everyone is in a good mood.  Well, just about everyone.  I kind of hate the fact that I am dreading it this year.  Because once those 4 days of vacation are over, it means back to work for me.  I told Max today.  I feel like he deserved to know and that he deserved to hear it from me.  I was holding back tears as I told him that his momma would no longer be home with him everyday.  That starting Monday, he was heading somewhere new, somewhere that he was going to be seeing a lot of.  It hurt.  A lot.  Now I know that he doesn't know any better, but I couldn't help thinking that maybe, just maybe, he understood what I was saying.  And as he looked back at me, and smiled, I think in his own way he was telling me that it was ok.  That he would be ok.  And so would I.

  2. Hi! Just found you via Smashion interview. My (twin) daughters are 3.5, but I remember looking all over for an affordable Petunia Pickle Bottom bag (I found a knock-off at Nord Rack). In any case, you're adorable and Max is beyond cute and I love your style!
