I heart Halloween

Now that I am officially off my front porch) literally and figuratively, I am finding some great places around town to shoot. Today, after I got home from school, I packed up my tripod and drove less than 2 miles up to the top of this street that has a bunch of farm land and open fields. There are some town soccer fields there too and it is all enclosed by this awesome stone wall. I pulled in, scoped out a few spots and settled on one. I didn't even realize at the time that my jacket was the same exact color as the sky. The sun was pretty strong so I am squinting in a bunch of the shots. Had I thought more about it, I would have brought my sunglasses but they were at home. I did a bunch of shots and then moved my camera over a bit and took some more in front of the cornfields. Those shots didn't come out so good and my camera battery was starting to die (more bad planning) so I called it a wrap. You can see in one of the shots that I thought I heard someone's voice and it startled me. I turned to look just as the camera went off. Being outside in the sun, with the nice fall temperature was the perfect way to start a well needed and well deserved weekend.

Tonight, Damien and I are staying in to plan our annual Halloween party. It has become a tradition with us every year to have a party and we usually have a themed one. We've been Margot and Richie Tenenbaum, Kill Bill and the Bride, Day of the Dead skeletons, Beetlejuice and Lydia, Alice and the Mad Hatter, and Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. This year, we are doing a circus theme. Not like happy fun circus. More like dingy creepy circus. So we have to plan out what we want the hall to look like (yes, we rent a hall!). Damien will do the invitations (we are making old-fashion circus posters). We want to have a big top tent and old rickety booths for decorations. We both have this idea of what it will look like (anyone ever seen Carnivale on HBO?) so we need to get working on executing that. Last year some of my oldest friends came aboard with us and now it has become something we all do together. Man, I heart Halloween.

  6. What field is that? It looks like it's not even in town, like it's out in Nebraska or something.
PS - I too am SO excited for Halloween.

The contrast of the sky blue against the field and the blue in your outfit are beyond fantastic. Such a gorgeous look! Can't wait to see more pictures from out and about. I'm the same way, you have inspired me to find some new backgrounds!!
