Cross country road trip- part 1

When Damien and I decided to do this road trip a few months ago, we knew that it would be unlike anything we had ever done before.  We have both done our fair share of traveling, together and separately, but embarking on a 5 week trip with a nearly 4 year old seemed different.  And it has been.  We are only 4 days in and already we have experienced some amazing things.  Damien got to see DC for the first time.  We drove Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway.  We camped as a family, which we had yet to do.  Tonight we are in a motel in Asheville, sleeping on a pretty comfy bed, eating local food and taking advantage of the free wifi.

Max has been a trooper.  There have been some meltdowns, for sure, but overall, he has been great.  We know we are asking a lot of him so we are allowing some leeway that we otherwise wouldn't (we may have created a portable dvd player junkie).  With 30 or so days left ahead of us, you do what you need to.

We chose our route based on where we knew people and places in between that we have wanted to see.  Here are pics from our first few days.
