Walk to Cure Cancer (and PMC)

One of my favorite things about high school was the fact that I was on Student Council and we did a ton of community service and volunteering. As an adult, I have found it very hard to get involved in any of these things. I really missed doing all the things I used to do and the way they used to make me feel. So now, as Student Council Advisor, I get do all these great things again. Our kids are so involved, whether it be the Walk for Hunger, beach cleanup, highway cleanup, Pan Mass, serving food at local shelters, or all of the work they do within the school to make it an all-around better place, the kids always volunteer happily and proudly. I feel the same way about volunteering. Today, we went to the Walk to Cure Cancer in Worcester, MA. We brought 7 kids and we raised over $400 to donate. It was a 5 mile walk and it was a beautiful day. The kids had a great time as did the advisors. It is such a wonderful feeling to be able to help out, in any way, and to see how it makes the kids feel. I hope that they continue to finds ways to volunteer as adults too. I am grateful that I had the opportunity.

I didn't take any pictures today so I am posting one that Damien took at the first rest stop for the Pan Mass Challenge. A few of my friends did the ride and it was an amazing experience for them. Damien does the MS ride in June and I am hoping to do 1 day with him this year. The ride is 75 miles a day, so I'll let you know if that changes. It's good to have goals, right?

  2. This is an amazing thing to do! I am so glad that so many of the kids participated and that you raised over $400 that is an incredible accomplishment!

Hopefully, eventually there won't be a need for these walks because there won't be anymore cancers, but until then I am so glad that people like you and your students are getting involved.

    Thank you! =)
